Topic: Recycling plastic waste into an artistic fashion

Title:   Project Plastic Fashion

Grant Proposal Topic Statement: We will recycle plastic on Campus by starting an art club that will utilize the pieces in an artistic fashion to reduce unnecessary waste of plastic and paper and help improve the environment to avoid larger issues in the future.

OUTLINE

1.         Project Description:  What is your innovation? How will you achieve it and who will help?

Our innovation is to upcycle plastic wastes in an artistic manner whether it is creating fashion and/or artistic pieces such as murals. We plan to collect plastic wastes and alter them into pieces worthy of  selling. The CCNY community should help with recycling plastic and if any volunteers would like to express their creativity or fashion designs is more than welcome to assist.

II.         Project Goals, Outputs, and Outcomes: What specifically will you achieve with your innovation? What will be the expected result and outcome?

You can include a chart or other visual showing any specifics of your plan.

Our goal is to minimize the amount of plastic waste to clean the environment as much as possible. We would have a more controlled environment where plastic waste is correctly placed and collected to reduce plastic misspend. We expect the plastic waste rates to decrease and our sales to increase. We plan to use that factor as a way to measure our success.

Concluding sentence: Wrap up your thoughts for this paragraph. This sentence can help you transition into the next focused thought.

In conclusion, we plan to help clean our environment by taking action as soon as possible by creating a club that expresses the creativity within whilst reducing a worldwide crisis.

III.       Roles, Responsibilities, and Qualifications of Key Personnel & Any Project Partner(s): Who will do what in relation to your Grant Proposal? Why are you qualified to do this work? You will have to be creative and focus on the positive here.

We split our responsibilities equally. As Fatma worked to get the narrative and abstract done, Manar mainly focused on the research and the layout of the presentation whilst Karen initiated the idea of the project and focused on the details and also worked on the layout of the project. Karen and Manar managed the budget as well. We are qualified to work on this project because we are some of millions of people who have to live in a world polluted with hundreds of plastic wastes everyday and if we don’t take action now, no one is sure where we will be a few years from now.

Analysis: Interpret your evidence in relation to your proposal or main focus by paraphrasing in your own words and explaining why it matters.

This article talks about plastic wastes and pollution. Plastic is not biodegradable. This means that any plastic that has ever been manufactured and ended up in the environment is still present in some form. Since the 1950s, the manufacture of plastic has increased dramatically. As a result, there is a build-up of plastic in the environment as more and more is discharged. So, Rain, wind, and ocean currents cause it to collect in some places, but some of it may just stay in locations where plastic garbage is dumped.

-Concluding sentence: Wrap up your thoughts for this paragraph. This sentence can help you transition into the next focused thought.

In conclusion, every year, around 3% of all plastic generated is predicted to wash up in the ocean. A total of 8.3 billion metric tons of plastic have been manufactured since the widespread introduction of the material following WWII. 6.3 billion tons of this total were discarded till 2015. Only 9% of waste plastic is recycled, while the remaining 12% is burned. Plastic does not dissolve, therefore the remaining 79 percent winds up in landfills or the environment, where they will remain in some form or another indefinitely.

IV. Programmatic Involvement and Mentor Support. Do you have any support for your plan from an organization, for example CCNY, our guest speaker, or anyone else?
